This Traditional licence is located south of the Palaeocene Mariner heavy oil field, which is currently undergoing field development by Statoil. The main focus on the block is the ‘Irresistible’ heavy oil discovery, made by 9/16a-3 well which encountered a 30 m column in Lower Eocene Mousa Formation sands. The discovery is associated with a broad structural nose and a calibrated seismic amplitude response that implies the presence of a stratigraphic trapping mechanism up-dip of the discovery well. Additional prospectivity has been identified in deeper stratigraphy.
The committed work programme comprises obtaining and reprocessing additional seismic data and undertaking additional geotechnical studies focused on establishing a viable development solution for the ‘Irresistible’ discovery. The company will be seeking partners to join in the drilling of an appraisal well to further delineate the ‘Irresistible’ accumulation.
